In Which the E of D, LM, and LP Journey to the Cliffes of Insanity

Our first stop after reaching the Cliffs of Insanity (aka the Peak District) was Pemberly. Otherwise known as Lyme Park. It's a beautiful place, but there was a distinct lack of Mr. Darcy. Most disappointing.

The Orangery was very cool, but my batteries died before I could take more than a couple of pictures. I swear, when I am a rich and famous writer, I'm totally having an Orangery. Possibly with a naked statue in the middle. This seems to be the rule for Orangeries. There must be a naked statue somewhere inside.

After Lyme Park we headed towards our B & B. On the way we snapped some fabulous photos of the surrounding countryside.
Our B & B turned out to be a working dairy farm perched on the side of a mountain with seriously the most incredible views EVER:

Unfortunately, it also SMELLED like a dairy farm. Ew. But it was also very comfy and warm inside, and Jane was a lovely hostess. She recommended the Royal Oak pub for dinner. Not only did it have the most delightfully delicious food (Blue Cheese and Wild Mushroom Risotto? Yes, please!), but it had a lovely atmosphere. Again, we ate there both nights we were in the Peak District.
As to why I refer to the Peaks as the "Cliffs of Insanity", it's because the narrow roads, perched along the tops of sheer cliffs and edged in rock walls inches from the car door are enough to send even the most calm person into complete nervous melt down.

The horrible roads were not to end in the Peak District, however. The harrowing experiences of the road would continue into the Lake District. Oi vey...
